India’s Daughter tells the story of the brutal gang rape and murder of 23-year-old medical student Jyoti Singh on a moving bus in Delhi, and the protests and riots which this event ignited throughout India, demanding changes in attitudes towards women.

The documentary includes an exclusive in-depth interview with one of the men convicted of the Delhi gang rape, a crime that sent shockwaves around the world in December 2012 and sparked international outrage and demand for justice. Leslee said on receiving the WorldView award: “India’s Daughter is a crucially important story that needs to be told now. There are always those moments in the life of an urgent project, when the need for an injection of supportive cash is a make-or-break issue.

“WorldView’s immensely generous and committed support with this award has made a huge difference… and touched me deeply,” she said.

The film will be broadcast on BBC4 Wednesday 4th March
