Great day for South African Docs

Shore BreakTwo WorldView-supported documentaries The Shore Break and The Dream of Shahrazad both received awards from the Durban International Film Festival last weekend!

The festival, now in its 36th year, is arguably Africa’s biggest film event attracting both film-lovers and industry representatives from across Africa and beyond. DIFF is a ten day celebration of world class cinema which screens new feature, documentary and short films from around the globe with a special focus on African film.

Ryley Grunenwald’s The Shore Break received the Amnesty International Human Rights Honorary Award with the jury stating that  “the film powerfully portrays a struggle within a local community regarding foreign mining rights in a pristine environment…(and) concisely and movingly uncovers this complex and urgent matter, which is still under investigation and in need of public support.” The film also won the DIFF Audience Award.

The Dream of Shahrazad, directed by Francois Verster, received the award for the best South African Documentary.
