Applications open for the Future Producer School

RachelWexler

We’ve teamed up with Sheffield Doc/Fest, Bungalow Town Productions and Creative Skillset to offer a new training initiative for ambitious and dedicated producers.

The course, delivered by Sheffield Doc/Fest and led by Emmy Award winning producer Rachel Wexler / Bungalow Town productions (left), responds to the current international feature documentary production landscape in the UK, through which a very limited number of successful executive producers are over-subscribed with offers from directors looking for producers. There is a need to nurture a new generation of ambitious feature documentary producers.

The course will run from May to August 2014 in Norwich and Sheffield for a group of 12 emerging feature documentary producers. Once the participants are selected, they will take part in an intensive three-day workshop delivered by course deviser and leader Rachel Wexler of Bungalow Town Producers (Shed Your Tears and Walk Away, The English Surgeon, Out of the Ashes) along with a host of acclaimed producers to feature as specialist speakers. In June 2014, participants will be invited to Sheffield Doc/Fest to take part in match-made meetings with international executive producers, directors and commissioners – the meetings will be a combination of advisory/mentoring meetings and real market encounters, with both ‘channels’ ultimately then leading to new working relationships for these producers.

Post-event mentoring will follow this to solidify the learnings from the market meetings and provide a framework for continuing relationships established and turning them into ongoing production relationships.

The primary outcome of the Future Producers School is to provide training and real market expertise to producers that have limited experience in the industry, but have the ambition to become leaders in delivering feature documentary film. The course also responds to a desperate need in the UK documentary industry for more international feature documentary producers.
